New Year's Eve

Updated: Aug 19

The 31st of December marks the end of each year and, as it draws to a close, it's a time to reflect on what is past and the start of a new year.

The Year-in-review

The concept of On The Bass Music was born back in November 2022 following the break up of the band. The immediate priority at that time was to take some time out, step back and evaluate. The concept of the website fitted well alongside this, and also the time to commit.

It's fair to say, the year has presented its challenges. While it's good to share the shiny side of things, it's also important not to gloss over some of the difficulties. There was the decision to walk away from a couple of prospective 'new band' ventures. While they started as a good idea, they highlighted the importance of not rushing into something which was not quite 'the right fit'. There was also the hint of an opportunity which crumbled before it began, a learning experience in managing expectation; sometimes things just aren't, for one reason or another, meant to be.

On the plus side, the year has presented the opportunity to work with an incredible group of musicians, and a much wider range of instrumentalists, which has made for some really interesting collaborative work. Not forgetting also, the delight of performing with ex Brides vocalist and guitarist Emily.

A year on, November 2023, the blog was launched. It was time, and the ideal way to share what's happening and anything new on the horizon.

All in all, the website has seen the end of its inaugural year on a high and it is with gratitude that others have been a part of the musical journey at its core.

The Start of a New Year

All over the country, and the world, we see images of music and merriment. Musical midnight displays of fireworks and light shows from London and capital cities across the world flashing across our television screens along with live performances from the world's top artists. It is beyond spectacular.

The annual countdown to midnight commences. The bells of Big Ben chime. At the sound of loud fizzes, pops, bangs and musical spectacular's people either spill into the chill night air to watch and smell the night sky or stay in the warmth by the fireside to watch intricate professional displays unfold through the wonders of 21st century technology.

Accompanying the greetings of "Happy New Year" come the New Year's resolutions and plans to do better things. With excitement, 'On The Bass Music' begins its second year. Much is expected, the plan being to embrace a variety of opportunities in the making. On the events calendar, a personal highlight and a return home town visit, Barnsley live 8 June 2024.
