The joys of 'Open Mic Night'

Updated: Aug 19

Open mic is, without doubt, a hotbed for creativity, where musicians of all ages, genres and backgrounds are able to take the stage and perform.

Performers can range from singer-songwriters to full bands. They're an eclectic mix of musicians, all with a common interest, who come together to perform, collaborate and revel in the creativity and the joy of playing and sharing their music.

If you haven't been to an open mic event before, they're usually open to pretty much anybody and provide a fun and relaxing environment in which to gain experience of performing live with an audience, share your music and gain instant feedback, forge connections with other musicians and, perhaps most importantly, lasting friendships. These are just a few reasons to go along to your local open mic event.

There are a couple of open mic events marked on the calendar here at On The Bass Music, a weekly Thursday event at The Imperial Music Venue, Mexborough and the first Sunday in the month hosted by contemporary and traditional folk duo Morris & Watson at Cawthorne Club, Barnsley.
